“My Future” is the black swan amongst Girl K’s releases. The album explores themes of disappointment, self-criticism, and longing, all enveloped in a new soundscape. Leaning into the pop genre, the songs are filled with nods to the darker tones of St. Vincent’s “Strange Mercy”, the rhythmic vocal and percussive compositions of Dirty Projector’s “Lamp Lit Rose”, and the lyrical delivery of Muna’s “Saves The World”.
